Killer Instinct for Xbox One is a free-to-play fighter, but those that want to get all the characters right out of the gate have a couple of options.
As detailed by creative director Ken Lobb, the full roster of all eight characters will be available around "February or March" and gamers can get all of them for $20. "That gets you all eight characters and their colors. We have some unlocks, some more special than others." Right at launch, only six fighters will be available, so the two remaining characters will be unlocked as soon as they are made available.
"Then you have a $40 SKU," Lobb goes on to add, "which is all eight characters, all that stuff, plus full different skins. Like, they look completely different…like, you get the original looking Jago [homage]." But it doesn't end there, as you'll also get "the original Killer Instinct emulated. No online. We're trying."
Fans will also be pleased to know that the game will be getting support well into next year with a second season. "The idea is, we'll have season two," Lobb explained to IGN. "Go out a year-ish, and just repeat the whole thing. It's one game. So you can cherry pick from season two and play with season one, so it's one ecosystem. It's not sharded."
