NHL 20 update adds Snoop Dogg as announcer and playable character

Out of all of the things for he newest NHL 20 update to add, Snoop Dogg is likely one of the last things most people would consider. Regardless, EA has added the Grammy Award-winning rapper, record producer, and youth football coach (to name a few) to its latest hockey game. With this new update, players can not only play as Snoop Dogg but they can also hear his announcer skills at work, too. It does not seem as though he will have his signature drug of choice along with him.

Oddly enough, EA did not give much warning that Snoop would be in the game. Today’s patch notes were released yesterday and made no mention of the Doggfather. Instead, the notes focused on more on pivot speeds, quality-of-life changes, bug fixes, and adding additional celebration animations. EA announced it via the trailer that you can watch at the bottom of the article.

Snoop Dogg and hockey might not be the first pairing you think of but he’s been involved in the sport before. Not only has he made some videos on the official NHL YouTube channel, but he commentated for a bit earlier this year at a Los Angeles Kings game after dropping the puck in that same game.

He’s also not a stranger to video games and has even been an announcer before. Call of Duty: Ghosts released a multiplayer voice pack for the rap legend for $2.99 about six months after the game came out.

He was also set to star in his own game, Fear and Respect, back in 2004. The late Boyz n the Hood director John Singleton was supposed to be involved with the GTA-like game before it was canceled in 2006. Earlier this year after Singleton’s death, Snoop even said he wanted to revive the project to honor the influential director. Snoop was also in Def Jam: Fight for NY as well as contributing voices to the Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff mobile title and Turbo: Super Stunt Squad game.
