Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX Whiscash Pond

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX Whiscash Pond | What does it do?

Whether you’re playing the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX demo or the full release, you’ve probably come across a body of water to the north of Pokemon Square containing a catfish-like Pokemon called Whiscash. It strikes as a little bit odd that everything in Pokemon Square serves a specific purpose, but this entire section doesn’t seem good for much except conversation. If this Nintendo Switch remaster is anything like the games it’s based on, however, then the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX Whiscash Pond will actually come to be very important.

What does Whiscash Pond do in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX?

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX Whiscash Pond

Early in the game and throughout the entire Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX demo, all that you can do at Whiscash Pond is talk to the Whiscash that calls it home. While the creature can impart knowledge and has even featured in the Pokemon anime, most gamers are looking for a little bit more than that.

In both Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team — the Game Boy Advance titles that Mystery Dungeon DX is based on — after progressing through the story the “Luminous Cave” appears in the center of Whiscash Pond. By entering the cave it’s possible to evolve your Pokemon, which don’t automatically evolve upon reaching a certain level as they do in the mainline Pokemon RPG series.

Of course, it’s also entirely possible that Nintendo could’ve changed this functionality for the Nintendo Switch remaster. Whether or not Whiscash Pond will ultimately be used to the same end remains to be seen, but it’s reasonable to assume that it’ll serve some greater purpose than just being a chill location to chat with a catfish.

We’ll keep you posted after Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX launches on March 6, 2020.
