The Rustland Grand Prix begins on Thursday, January 16, at 4 AM PT. Players will have one month to unlock all of the apocalypse-themed items, as the event ends on Sunday, February 16 (presumably at the same time). Among these event items are eight racer skins, various paint jobs, wheels, and stickers, and one kart in the Pit Stop shop, as well as two karts in the seasonal Nitro Gauge. Players will also automatically unlock free country flag stickers for their carts when booting up the game after the Rustland update.

The event’s most significant addition to the game is Megamix Mania, a post-apocalyptic track set in and around a desert factory. The track gets its name from Megamix, a new racer (and, notably, CTR’s fiftieth playable character) added in the update, who is a Frankenstein-like mashup of Neo Cortex, N. Gin, Dingodile, and Tiny Tiger. He can be unlocked by completing various seasonal challenges in the Nitro Gauge during the Grand Prix.

Additionally, players will have access to the Golden Wumpa Hunt mode, which Beenox compared to the Spooky Grand Prix’s Ghost Hunt mode. In Golden Wumpa Hunt, players will have to smash through glowing crates in an attempt to catch Golden Wumpa Fruit. Completing these races will reward players with “stash” of Wumpa Coins, and a number of Nitro Gauge challenges will require completions of the new mode.
