Anime fans are starting 2020 in the right way with Bandai Namco and CyberConnect2’s latest Dragon Ball Z game. By combining the long-running series’ insane combat scenarios with more typical action-adventure and RPG elements, the developers have created a rounded title that anybody with an affinity for DBZ is sure to enjoy. One thing that’d make DBZ: Kakarot even better, though, is the ability to play as Gohan. Luckily, we’ve got everything you need to know about how to play as Gohan in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot right here.
How to unlock Gohan in DBZ: Kakarot
If you’re looking to play as Goku’s eldest son, then there’s no specific task that you need to perform or keep in mind as you experience DBZ: Kakarot. All that you need to do is continue playing and naturally progressing through the game until eventually, you’ll be granted the opportunity to play as a young Gohan.

As is the case in the anime, when you continue to progress through the game thereafter Gohan will grow up to become an adult. He isn’t as passionate about fighting as his father and many other Dragon Ball characters, though that doesn’t prevent Gohan from harnessing great power in combat when the time is right.
Gohan Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot abilities
When you first play as Gohan, he has the following Super Attacks available:
- Masenko
- Body Impact
- Meteor Sledge
Just like with Vegeta and other unlockable DBZ: Kakarot characters, you’ll gain more abilities as you continue to play. Eventually, this allows for equipping a fourth fighting move and the others can be swapped in and out to your personal liking. In the case of Gohan, however, character growth will be more pronounced than elsewhere as he literally develops from a young boy into a grown man throughout the course of the game.
