Centuries ago, yokai (literally “ghost”) terrorized Japan, and only skilled warriors well-versed in martial combat and magic could defeat them. Blessed with the abilities of yokai and warrior alike, you’ll travel through Sengoku-era Japan (that’s the mid-1500s, for those of you who aren’t history nerds) fighting enemies with a retooled combat system that preserves much of the challenge of the first Nioh.
The trailer opens with some traditional Japanese singing in front of a temple, interspersed with various other scenes from the game. A cavalcade of colorful characters and creepy ghosts alike make their appearance, hinting at a truly epic story based on Japanese lore. Regrettably, we don’t get to see much in the way of combat in this trailer outside of a cutscene context.
