Final Fantasy 7 Remake opening movie blows the original game away

We’re getting closer and closer to the release of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and sometimes it’s easy to forget the massive graphical improvements that were made. The recent reveal of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake opening movie goes to show just how far this beloved classic game has come.

In the original opening movie, the camera pans over a starry night sky. We get a close-up of Aeris looking at a pipe leaking some Mako energy. She walks out into the street as the camera pans all the way out, revealing the massive size of Midgar. We then see Cloud, Barret, and his companions jump off the train to kick off the very first mission.

Take a look at the original FF7 opening movie to see for yourself:

When you compare it to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake opening movie, it doesn’t even seem like the same game. The camera follows a bird flying over a wasteland, revealing Midgar in the distance. The bird flies into the fog surrounding the city, revealing a mass of buildings, trains, and roads in the daytime.

A solid minute or so is spent showing off the city and its inhabitants before focusing on the Mako Reactor, switching to nighttime, and largely following the story beats of the original trailer.

You can watch the FF7 Remake opening movie below, and you’ll be able to play this game when it launches on the PS4 on April 10, 2020.
