Watch out, Nintendo, as Minecraft Boost Minis are on the way and look to be Mojang’s attempt at creating their own version of Minecraft amiibo. Even better, it looks like you can use them to unlock cool bonuses in Minecraft Earth.
If you happen to be unfamiliar with amiibo figures, they’re a pretty neat idea. These tiny toy statues make for great collectibles, but Nintendo had the genius idea to put a chip in them that can store data. This allowed players to physically place the amiibo on their Wii U, 3DS, or Nintendo Switch and unlock in-game content.

Now, Mojang is going to be doing something very similar with Minecraft Boost Minis. As Kotaku reports, these miniature figures will also have an NFC chip inside of them that will allow players to unlock bonus content in games. These figures aren’t for the Minecraft game on the Nintendo Switch or 3DS, though, as these are going to be used for Minecraft Earth.
The Boost Minis are expected to retail for $5 apiece. There will be a total of 20 figures for the initial Boost Minis line, and each one has its own special abilities. Superparent states that there will be 10 different boosts in total, some of which they’ve mentioned.
What are the Minecraft Boost Minis boosts?
- Increased tappable radius
- Decrease in crafting time
- Extra health
- …and more
You may, of course, not want to spend $100 trying to collect all of these figures. That’s why there will also be an in-game option to purchase these same boosts using Rubies, the premium currency of Minecraft Earth. That said, it seems like you may be able to use these new Minecraft amiibo-like figures more than once; if that’s the case, they’ll make for a better purchase in the long run.
Minecraft Boost Minis are expected to arrive sometime in the Spring of 2020 and are intended for children ages 6 and up. You can learn more about Minecraft Earth at its official website.
