Google is doubling down on making their own games with the announcement of a new Stadia games studio. This brand-new game developer is going to be headed up by Shannon Studstill, one of the producers who made the God of War franchise a massive success.
“The new Playa Vista studio will focus on delivering exclusive games, using new gameplay mechanics, creative ways to play together and unique interaction models that we’re just starting to explore,” stated a Google Blog post from Jade Raymond, Google’s Head of Stadia Games. “While we’re not ready to share specific game plans yet, rest assured we are listening to what gamers want and adding our own Stadia twists to create new IP and experiences.”

Heading up Playa Vista is Shannon Studstill, a veteran of the gaming industry with over 25 years of experience. Her work has largely centered on the God of War franchise. Her earlier works included serving as a digital painter for The Mask: The Origin and a camera loader for Alien Terminator, but she soon moved on to several production roles that brought Kratos to life on the PS2.
Playa Vista will be Google’s second new Stadia games studio, augmenting the production of Stadia Games and Entertainment in Montréal, Canada. It’s probably going to be a few years before we see anything from them, so it seems like Google is in the gaming business for the long haul.
