Sony Looking To Bring PlayStation Game Streaming To PCs, TVs, Blu-ray Players, And More

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Sony is looking to transform the PlayStation brand into more than just a hardware platform. The company is aiming to elevate what gamers know as "PlayStation" into a digital service that isn't bound by a specific black box, but rather, is accessible on whatever piece of electronic equipment one owns.

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida made this perfectly clear when discussing the future of Gaikai. "Speaking of the ultimate goal, we would like to deliver PlayStation games to all devices. So we’re considering various things like PC, TVs, Blu-ray players, smartphones and tablets," he explained to Dengeki Online. "We hope to continue to expand not only to Sony devices, but even to devices other than Sony’s. This is still being studied."

What about devices like… Xbox One? Or say… Wii U? Nah, Sony, I'm just teasin'.

Yoshida went on to add: "We previously spoke about PlayStation going from hardware to something closer to a service, regardless of the device — Of course PlayStation will still be the center, but I think we would like to expand to different things."

What you you guys think about the expansion of PlayStation? Would you like to see it become more of a service rather than a specific piece of hardware? If it allows for more flexibility on the consumer side, count me in. Let's spread that PlayStation love to all corners of the home!
