Call of Duty Players Only Want One Thing Playlist Update

Infinity Ward, the development studio behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, isn’t afraid to inject some humor into the game. This past April Fool’s Day, the developers tapped into their funny bones by implying that Call of Duty players only want one thing. And as it turns out, that one thing wasn’t quite as disgusting as you might expect.

Just by reading the phrase “COD players only want one thing,” you’re probably already imagining the rest of the joke’s setup: “…and it’s disgusting.” In the case of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare — and much like the meme itself — the one thing players supposedly want isn’t at all what they may expect: Shipment 10v10.

Chances are good that you’ve heard the “only want one thing” joke before; it’s been used to poke fun a variety of supposed male-dominated interests. But in this case, the punchline of the joke was the introduction of a chaotic game mode that probably no one ever asked for. Shipment 6v6 was brutal enough on its own, but the 10v10 version results in little more than an actual melee.

With that said, Shipment 10v10 was apparently popular enough that Infinity Ward decided to bring it back. With the playlist update on May 8, 2020, Shipment 24/7 was once again turned into Shipment 10v10. This update also replaced BR Solos with BR Stimulus Solos, a new way of fighting that encourages players to collect and hoard their money.

It may be true that Call of Duty players only want one thing, but it’s safe to assume that Shipment 10v10 isn’t it. But perhaps that’s the point. Maybe we’re supposed to be disgusted at the thought of reckless, careless violence; of firefights so chaotic that the notion of completing objectives is laughable. Or maybe the joke is that such a mode is in itself disgusting, and we’re playing into a stereotype just by enjoying it. Either way, Shipment 10v10 is back, at least for now, and it’s still an absolute riot.
