How to swim faster in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

You’re going to need to know how to swim faster in Animal Crossing: New Horizons if you want to take full advantage of the new Summer Update content drop. While it can seem tricky at first, mastering the fastest way to swim is key to catching some of the trickier ocean creatures. Read on for everything you need to know about swimming faster in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How do you swim faster in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

To swim faster in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you need to tap the “A” button while pushing the left analog stick in the direction that you want to move.

While holding “A” does give you a slight speed boost, you’re going to want to repeatedly tap “A” to move at the maximum speed. Your character will perform a breaststroke and move across the ocean with greater speed.

This method can also be used underwater. Dive under the water using “Y” and then rapidly tap “A” to catch up with your prey.

The tapping “A” method is not only useful for more efficient gathering of scallops and other resources, it can also be used to catch up with the most speedy of creatures. For example, we needed to tap “A” in order to catch a Snow Crab. Without this method, it would have proven very difficult indeed!

While spamming the “A” button might be a bit noisy, especially if you have clicky buttons like me(!), it’s definitely worth putting up with the noise for that additional boost in speed. Cover ground more quickly and nab those underwater creatures for your collection (and also for Pascal).

Being able to swim is just one of many changes implemented by the new patch. What’s more, there’s yet another Summer Update scheduled to launch this August, which promises even more things to do.

Other recent changes to Animal Crossing: New Horizons include everyone’s favorite dog musician, K.K. Slider, now appearing on a different day.
