Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity microtransactions Lucky Ladle

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity microtransactions may be coming for physical pre-orders

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity microtransactions might be coming for this newly announced The Legend of Zelda game. The Lucky Ladle will be free pre-order DLC for digital purchases, but people who buy physical copies might have to buy it “as a paid item at a later date.”

The Lucky Ladle is a silly weapon that will probably just be used for fun, but it’s only going to be made available to people who make a digital pre-order. Check out what it says on the game’s official website:

*This item will not be immediately available to owners of the package version of the game, but may be offered as a paid item at a later date.

Clearly, Nintendo would prefer that players grab the digital version of the game, especially because they’re making more money on each copy. While plenty of Nintendo games have had pre-order bonuses and DLC, this is one of the rare instances where players might have to buy it later.

This statement is a little ambiguous, too. The phrase “may be offered as a paid item” can be interpreted in two ways:

  1. The Lucky Ladle may be made available as paid DLC.
  2. The Lucky Ladle will be made available as DLC, and you may have to pay for it.

Are we seeing the first of many Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity microtransactions or is this just a one-off? It’s a little unclear on the wording alone, but it might be a good idea to pre-order the digital version just to be safe.
