As it turns out, one of the most common TikTok filters is also one of the most difficult to find. It’s the color selector effect, otherwise known as the color customizer. As the name implies, it allows users to select various hues to apply to their videos, changing the look of eyes, skin, teeth, clothing, and more. And while it may be a popular filter, not everyone knows how to use the color customizer. Luckily for you, we’re here to help.
How to use the color customizer effect on TikTok
To use the color customizer filter on TikTok, you need to find the color selector filter under effects. From there, you can select the color you want to apply to your videos, then adjust the strength or hue of the effect.
Of course, there is a procedure you’ll need to follow. Thankfully, it’s very straightforward:
- Open TikTok, and if desired, record the video you wish to post
- From the video screen, click the Effects icon in the lower-left
- On the Trending tab, look for the icon with a blank face over a rainbow background. This is the color customizer filter
- Choose the color you wish to apply from the upper bar, then select the strength of the color in the lower bar
That’s all there is to it. Some of the most popular uses for the TikTok color customizer filter are in changing skin or clothing tone. Emphasizing certain hues will de-emphasize other hues, such as using the yellow filter to whiten teeth. It’s also possible to use the effect to make videos entirely in black-and-white, or to otherwise remove unwanted colors for a unique effect. Just don’t expect to invert colors — you’ll need to use the inverted filter for that.
The color selector filter on TikTok isn’t hard to use, it’s just a little hard to find. Look for the color customizer within the trending tab under the effects menu. From there, you can use the two sliders to adjust your video’s look. Play around with the settings and find something that makes your TikToks pop.
