Shaolin Monks remaster

Ed Boon teases MK Shaolin Monks remaster, is surprised when it trends

Currently trending on Twitter is the rumor of a potential Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks remaster, much to the surprise of everyone. Surprised individuals include NetherRealm creative director and series co-creator Ed Boon, who was the one who started it. Boon included MK Shaolin Monks on a poll of potential Mortal Kombat remasters, which it’s currently winning, sparking rumors — and it’s not the first time that Boon has teased it.

Why is a MK Shaolin Monks remaster trending?

Shaolin Monks remaster

A potential remaster of the 2005 Xbox/PS2 game Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks started trending thanks to Ed Boon, who tweeted out a poll with a single tantalizing word: “remaster?” Also on the list were MK Deception (otherwise known as Mortal Kombat 6), MK 9, and showing how random these answers were, Mortal Kombat 2. As of right now, Shaolin Monks is easily winning with 47.2% of the vote.

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks was an action-adventure game starring Liu Kang and Kung Lao, and the last of the Mortal Kombat spin-off series released by Midway. It’s also fondly regarded by fans and was fairly successful. While the poll’s not over, it immediately sent Shaolin Monks trending on Twitter as fans flocked to show their support for the spin-off game. This caught Boon by surprise, who tweeted “W in T actual F?” in response.

The thing is, this is not the first time Ed Boon has teased something going on with Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, which fans immediately showed their support for. It’s not even the first time in the last month, since Boon also tweeted about a possible MK Shaolin Monks 2 on May 16. Following the reaction to that with talk of a Shaolin Monks remaster makes it seem like it’s a real possibility.

Of course, it’s not the only thing Ed Boon has been teasing recently. NetherRealm’s studio head has stoked fans into a fervor with talk of Mortal Kombat Vs Marvel, a Marvel Vs DC Comics fighting game, and a straight potential Marvel Comics fighting game. With E3 2021 and Summer Game Fest happening this month, with Warner Bros in attendance at both, it’s possible one of the many games Boon has teased could happen maybe.
