Are there going to be Dead Space remake PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions? That’s the big question many fans have following the eagerly-awaited and heavily-rumored Dead Space 1 remake reveal at EA Play Live today, but the little note at the end of the teaser trailer suggests that the return of Dead Space may be limited to PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Will Dead Space be on previous-gen systems, or is it strictly a current-gen game?
Will there be Dead Space remake PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions?
As suggested by the final shot of the Dead Space remake’s trailer, the game is being built entirely for current-gen systems — meaning the new Dead Space is exclusive to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It is not just a simple remaster, as the team at EA Motive — who also made last year’s excellent Star Wars: Squadrons — are remaking the game from the ground up using EA’s Frostbite engine, and that apparently doesn’t leave much room for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions.

The new Dead Space will be a total remake of the first game in the series from 2008, set exclusively on the USG Ishimura. According to the remake’s senior producer Phillippe Ducharme, “going back to the original [Dead Space] and having the opportunity to do so on next-gen consoles excited everyone on the team,” and he also noted that Motive was aiming to “modernize the game.” However, the one thing Dead Space doesn’t have yet is even an approximate release date, so expect it to be late 2022 at the very earliest — but don’t expect that to be on anything other than PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
The return of Dead Space was heavily rumored prior to today’s reveal, with most fans in agreement that the first game needed a remaster, not a remake. Plus, many fans are still upset that EA closed original series developer Visceral Games in 2017 and are now, just a few years later, working on Dead Space again — similar to what’s happening with the new Fable game, in fact.
