What is Pokemon Xenoverse Legal to Download

What is Pokemon Xenoverse and is it legal to download?

One of the latest video game fan creations to get notoriety is Pokemon Xenoverse. This Italian Pokemon fan game recently received a translation into English, meaning many are hearing about it for the first time despite having been out for a while now. However, given the fact it isn’t an official game, some are wondering whether it’s legal to download Pokemon Xenoverse or not. Fortunately, we have the answers below.

What is Pokemon Xenoverse?

Pokemon Xenoverse’s official name is Xenoverse: Per Aspera Ad Astra (Xenoverse: Through Difficulties to the Stars in English). While the title omits the name, this is very much a Pokemon game. It was created by a team calling themselves WEEDle in RPG Maker, and takes players on a full Pokemon adventure with graphics similar to those seen in the Game Boy Advance games.

Xenoverse takes place in the Eldiw Region and features many things Pokemon fans are familiar with, like gyms and the Elite Four. It also features new regional variations of existing Pokemon and “X specimens,” which are powerful, mutated Pokemon that may have multiple health bars. There are also plenty of new gameplay features, which give Xenoverse a unique feel while sticking close to the traditional Pokemon formula.

Is it legal to download Pokemon Xenoverse?

Since Pokemon Xenoverse is a wholly original fan game, it’s not like downloading a ROM. Someone who plays Xenoverse isn’t “stealing” from Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. However, the project is copyright infringement on the creators’ side of things. The game is an unauthorized use of intellectual property, and Nintendo has acted to take down projects like this in the past.

However, downloading Xenoverse and playing it shouldn’t be an issue. Since the user isn’t creating infringing content, there shouldn’t be any legal problems with enjoying the game. However, those that are worried should consult with an attorney and ensure this is the case. After all, legalities change from location to location.
