GTA Online really seems like one of those games that’s never going to disappear. It’s been going strong for the best part of a decade, after it launched as a GTA V add-on a month after the game’s release in 2013. That’s a long time for just one map for fans to play on, and now, there are rumors that we’ll soon be saying goodbye to Los Santos in GTA Online. We’ve got all the details on whether to expect a new map.
GTA Online: Is there going to be a new map?
No, it’s really not worth getting your hopes up – a new map for GTA Online is very unlikely. Rockstar Games haven’t mentioned it at all, and a game of this type would never introduce a totally new map.
Since it launched eight years ago, there’s only ever been one GTA Online map: the extravagant city of Los Santos, and the surrounding Blaine County area. That’s because GTA Online is technically a prequel to the story of GTA V, so it makes sense that it encompasses the same world. Therefore, a new map wouldn’t fit into the game’s narrative.
Instead of in GTA Online, it’s far more likely that the next time we see a new Grand Theft Auto map will be in GTA VI. Of course, Rockstar Games have consistently reiterated that the game is nowhere near release, so don’t hold your breath for it any time soon. While GTA Online is a live-service multiplayer game in the same vein as Call of Duty Warzone, the former game has never seen a change of map, while the latter has swapped maps and styles consistently.
Aside from a lathering of snowfall at Christmas, there’s never been a map change in GTA Online – so don’t expect one any time soon.
In other news, there are several new updates for big games out now – so check out what’s new in Pokemon Unite, and Fallout 76.
