After months of anticipation since its delay in June, it seems like God of War Ragnarok is finally on the horizon. Details were thin on the ground beforehand, with the game even lacking a title. Therefore, the PlayStation Showcase was the perfect opportunity for Sony Santa Monica to delve deeper into the upcoming game, with the God of War Ragnarok release date and more. We also got a major question answered about whether we’ll finally see Thor make an appearance here.
God of War 2: Will Kratos battle Thor?
It seems as though Thor’s appearance in God of War: Ragnarok has been confirmed.
The barrage of new God of War information opens with a trailer, where Kratos and Atreus camp out in the woods to hide form the impending Ragnarok. Odin is ready to unleash havoc on Midgard, it emerges, but the only way to try and stop Ragnarok is for Kratos and his son to locate a mystery scientist with historical ties to Odin. There’s plenty of new creatures showcase too, and more ways to use Kratos’ weapons. The trailer also teases a high-stakes battle with Thor, as his hammer appears in one of the scenes.
God of War 2 release date
Following the trailer, we sadly didn’t get any information on when God of War 2 will release.
Despite this, today’s PlayStation Showcase was great for God of War fans. We last saw Kratos, and his nimble son Atreus, in 2018’s God of War for PS4. The first details on a sequel dropped in summer 2020, at the PS5 announcement event. The intense cinematic trailer teased the impending Ragnarok event mentioned towards the end of the 2018 game, and today’s news is further confirmation of this, with plenty pointing towards a battle with Thor.
Overall then, it seems like Kratos is back in full axe swing, after months of rumors and anticipation. All the exciting news means is that the wait until Ragnarok’s release is going to be even more difficult.
