One of the big mysteries leading into Halo Infinite is the identity of The Weapon AI. The trailers introduced her as the Master Chief’s new companion, but her origins are cryptic through most of the campaign. Luckily, we do get some answers as the game draws to a close, including whether the Weapon has a name.
Does the Weapon have a name in Halo Infinite
The Weapon doesn’t have a name in Halo Infinite. However, as the campaign’s final cutscene plays, the pilot asks her what he should call her. Since she’s no longer just a weapon to be used against Cortana, Master Chief tells her that she gets to choose her own name. To this, she says, “Then… I think… I think I might have the perfect one.”
Unfortunately, the game closes before we get a chance to hear what name the Weapon chose for herself. It’s possible that she’ll choose to be called Cortana after her predecessor, but that would be a bit awkward. Cortana is known throughout the galaxy as a mad AI that killed millions. So, carrying that mantle would probably be too much of a liability.
We’ll have to wait to see what name the Weapon chose for herself until the next story drop. Halo Infinite is supposed to be a ten-year-long project, so instead of waiting until Halo 7 (or whatever it would be called), 343 Industries should be releasing more campaign missions as DLC. However, a date hasn’t been determined for that, and we’re not sure whether one mission will release at a time or if it’ll come out in campaign-sized chunks.
It looks like the Weapon is here to stay and is now the Chief’s permanent AI partner. So for better or worse, players should get ready to hear her new name a ton once it’s finally revealed.
