Where Does Elden Ring Take Place?

Many FromSoftware fans are wondering just where Elden Ring takes place. Some have theorized that it’s the same world as Dark Souls. Others have guesses as strange and nonsensical as “Ohio.” We’ll take a look at what we know about the world of Elden Ring and what’s going on in it.

What world does Elden Ring take place in?

Where Does Elden Ring Take Place World

We don’t know much about the world of Elden Ring as a whole. The game is localized to a continent that is referred to as the Lands Between. However, we know that there must be more of the world because the Tarnished have to come from somewhere else. We also see a derelict ship in Caelid, which is a large ocean-going vessel. Unfortunately, the lands outside of the Lands Between are entirely unknown to us right now.

The Lands Between were once protected by the grace of the Elden Ring and enjoyed the bounty of the Erdtree. The demigods, led by Queen Marika and the Elden Lord Godwyn the Golden, ruled over a united kingdom. However, life in the Lands Between wasn’t natural. The Elden Ring that brought order to the Lands Between was forged to in part confine death. As such, the Demigods were immortal until assassins stole the Rune of Death and killed the Elden Lord. Unknown forces then shattered the Elden Ring.

Queen Marika’s offspring claimed the shards of the Elden Ring called the Great Runes. However, the power of the ruins tainted their minds and drove them mad. As a result, they began to war against one another. Their constant battling destroyed the land and turned their former kingdoms into ruins. Most surviving citizens share their masters’ madness and those who don’t are often close to the precipice.

The role players take in the game is that of a Tarnished, one who lost the grace of the Erdtree and was banished. However, with the Lands Between almost lost, the Erdtree uses the last of its power to summon the Tarnished home in the hopes one can rise to be the new Elden Ring and restore order.
