With The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 being one of the most hotly anticipated games of recent times, fans have been eagerly waiting for more information about it from Nintendo. While there’s still no official word from the company, rumors have surfaced that the game could be called “Breath of Duality.”
Is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Duality the sequel’s name?
Although it is right to be skeptical about the leaks such as this, the rumor for the Breath of the Wild 2 sequel comes from a respected journalist in the industry. Writing on his personal blog, Paul Gale revealed that he has heard from sources that Breath of Duality is the name of the upcoming action-adventure game. However, it isn’t clear whether this is the official title or was a placeholder while the game was in development, as the name was first seen some time ago according to Gale.
The Breath of Duality would likely be a reference to the original name from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild but also a hint at the possible nature of the game. Gale suggests that the “Duality” portion could be a clue that players will be able to play as Princess Zelda as well as Link, something that has been rumored for many months. This could well be why Nintendo is being so secretive about the title, the company’s Senior Product Marketing Manager Bill Trinen explained in an interview with IGN that they were holding back the name purposely to avoid giving too much information away.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was critically acclaimed when it launched in 2017 and almost immediately prompted discussions about a potential sequel. Nintendo confirmed it was working on the project in 2019 when it released a teaser trailer at E3. The sequel is expected to hit store shelves sometime in 2022, although there’s no official release date yet.
