Steam Hit Dinkum Coming to Consoles After Early Access Period

Dinkum developer James Bendon has said the game will arrive on consoles once it leaves Early Access. The town sim set in the Australian outback was only released in Early Access on Steam eight days ago but has already become a hit with players, featuring in the top ten of the Top Sellers list.

Which consoles will Dinkum be on?

Dinkum

Bendon did not say which consoles he would be targeting for Dinkum, but it’s fair to say that PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch are all in the running. The chances of cross-play between the different platforms are relatively low, though, as the developer doesn’t believe this will be possible. Dinkum takes place on an island inspired by the wild Australian outback. Up to four players can team up to build a new home amongst eucalyptus forests, deserts, billabongs, and scrubland, each of which comes with its fair share of Aussie-inspired wildlife, including dangerous predators. Hunting, mining, fishing, and foraging are all important to get what you need to create an idyllic town.

As the game has only just been released into Early Access and Bendon is a solo developer, it will likely be quite a while before the game is fully released on PC. Before then, intentions are to add a Steam Cloud save system, seasonal events, and a greater selection of characters, animals, clothing, and items. When the game exits Early Access, not only is the plan to bring it to consoles but also to add support for extra languages. Those languages are not set in stone but Bendon has asked players to send suggestions for what they would like to see.

In other news, Pokemon Go will offer compensation for players affected by the Facebook login issues today. Elsewhere, Hell Let Loose is currently having a free weekend on PS5, Xbox series X|S, and PC.
