Rumors of a new Blade game in the works at Ubisoft have been swiftly debunked by the publisher. Several posts on Instagram from actor Edwin Gaffney in late July had suggested that he had finished motion capture on some Marvel game by Ubisoft, along with a clapperboard that had B. Tariq’s name on it. That’s the director slated for the next Blade movie in 2023. But the publisher has since denied the allegations and conjectures with a clear response on Twitter.
If it’s not a new Blade game, what is Ubisoft working on?
Sorry to slice up the rumors, we're not making a Blade game but we can't wait to see what our friends at @MarvelStudios are cooking up for next year's movie!

The tweet posted above from Ubisoft states that it is not “making a Blade game,” which might seem to destroy all rumors of the sort. But if you look at the wording of the tweet, there’s still room for speculation. Just because the publisher isn’t doing a game based on Blade outright, it could still be working on a Marvel game with the character in it, perhaps in some ensemble game like Marvel’s Avengers.
And even if this has nothing to do with Blade at all, Gaffney’s Instagram posts still reveal that he and fellow actor Alex Martin have finished motion capture on some action game. Gaffney and Martin aren’t posing with a sword in a production called “Marvel” for nothing.
That said, we’ll likely not see what Ubisoft is developing for quite some time. The upcoming Disney and Marvel showcase will be held on September 9 during the D23 Expo, but that presentation will likely focus on Disney’s properties or other Marvel games. Motion capture is typically done during the start of video game development too, so the publisher likely would not be ready to reveal what this project is until much later.
