PlayStation Television Marketing Budget Trumps Xbox

When it comes to television advertisements, Sony is spending more money promoting PlayStation 4 than Microsoft is shelling out in favor of generating excitement for Xbox One

According to research firm iSpot, Sony has spent $59 million on television ads for PlayStation between the months of January and May. Meanwhile, within the same five-month window, Microsoft has spent just $34.7 million on TV ads for Xbox.

When considering Sony's rather poor financial state, it's a bit surprising to see the company spending so much in marketing. Then again, its gaming division is one of its few successful divisions at the moment, so if Sony's going to spend money anywhere, it makes sense for the company to push PS4 as much as possible.

As for Microsoft, I think it's safe to assume the Big M is saving its marketing dollars for a big push later this year. After all, we've got Halo: The Master Chief CollectionSunset Overdrive, and Forza Horizon 2 coming this holiday season. Something tells me we'll also get plenty of commercials reminding gamers that Xbox One gets Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare's DLC before PS4 and PC.

Thanks, PlayStation LifeStyle.
