Watch Dogs Ships 8 Million Units, Ubisoft Sees Record First Quarter Sales

Ubisoft has revealed that they've achieved some incredible first quarter sales numbers with 8 million copies of Watch Dogs. That incredible number only pales in comparison to the grand stake of €360 million. Wow. I think that's a lot of Watch Dogs for one person, don't you?

You'd expect they'll have awesome swag for fans at San Diego Comic-Con later this month. The publisher cites downloadable titles like Child of Light and Valiant Hearts: The Great War in confirming that they'll expect to meet their targets.

The publisher writes that its games also earned a "record number of awards" with particular emphasis on Youtube views of Assassin's Creed Unity and Far Cry 4. There's no doubt the publisher will continue that social media push with online games, especially since Assassin's Creed Unity focuses on seamless co-operative missions triggered around the game world.

Yves Guillemot added to the release, stating, and just to clarify you absolutely have to read it with his voice in your head:

The success of Watch Dogs and the quality of our games portfolio presented at this year’s E3 highlight our strategic positioning as well as our continuous drive for innovation, and affirm our long-term approach. Watch Dogs is now well positioned as a major franchise and we will be able to replicate and build on its success in the coming years. Its sales performance testifies to Ubisoft’s expertise as a creator of blockbuster brands.

Well, sure. But Yves, we don't like your games for the sales. We like 'em because they're fun to play, they're totally action-packed and varied. Just keep making them. Look for more San Diego Comic-Con coverage this month.
