Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Get through Sandstorm Desert Gerudo Town

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: How to Get Through Sandstorm in Gerudo Desert and Into Gerudo Town

Getting through the sandstorm in Gerudo Desert in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom seems a lot trickier than it is. When you’re trying to get into Gerudo Town, you’ll be stopped by this massive obstacle that obscures your vision and disables your compass and minimap. However, there are a few ways to negate this effect and easily slip past it.

How to get past the sandstorm into Gerudo Town in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Gliding Sandstorm

To get through the sandstorm in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you can do one of three things:

  • Point toward Gerudo Town at Kara Kara Bazaar and go in a straight line.
  • Fly over the sandstorm.
  • Navigate using map coordinates.

Go in a straight line

There aren’t a ton of obstacles between Kara Kara Bazaar and Gerudo Town. You could use the nearby updrafts to glide upward and then head in a straight line toward the town. The big thing to avoid is falling into the Desert Rift. However, it’s useful as a landmark to help you find your way.

Fly over the sandstorm

If you gain enough altitude, you can completely avoid the sandstorm in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Unfortunately, the lack of sky islands makes this easier said than done, but you can glide from the Geurdo Highlands Skyview Tower or build a Wing vehicle and fly there.

Navigate using map coordinates

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Coordinates

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has a coordinate system that gives you the latitude, longitude, and elevation of an area. When you’re in the sandstorm, your map and compass are disabled, but you can still see what coordinates you’re at.

In the game, the three coordinates represent x (latitude), y (longitude), and z (height). It works like this:

  • x (lattitude)
    • Increases: East
    • Decreases: West
  • y (longitude)
    • Increases: North
    • Decreases: South
  • z (height)
    • Increases: Higher
    • Decreases: Lower

The z coordinate doesn’t matter here, so we’ll focus on just the x and y.

The coordinates for Kara Kara Bazaar are -3290, -2512. Gerudo town is southwest of the bazaar, so we can deduce that its coordinates are both smaller numbers. So, even in the sandstorm, as long as the first coordinates numbers are decreasing, you’re headed the right way.

If you’re still having trouble finding it, just head to these coordinates to find Gerudo Town in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: -3890, -2969.
