In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Riju’s age is a bit of a mystery, but we have more than a few clues as to how old the new chief of Gerudo Town is. As many Zelda fans will know, Lady Riju appeared in Breath of the Wild as a child. She’s certainly older now in TotK, but because Gerudo mature faster than Hylians, her age is difficult to discern at first glance. Here’s how old Riju is in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
How old is Riju in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
Riju is most likely somewhere between 15 and 17 years of age in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
According to the art book “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Creating a Champion,” Riju is 12 years old. Working off of that, Tears of the Kingdom as a direct sequel takes place roughly three to five years after BotW. We can estimate this due to the maturity of several characters from the previous game, like Tulin and Koko.
Also in Terry Town, a Gerudo named Rhondson, with her husband Hudson, has a daughter named Mattison who has already reached an age of awareness where she must leave for Gerudo Town. So three years seems to be the most generous estimate as to the time gap between BotW and TotK. Piecing all of this information together, and we have Lady Riju at the age of at least 15 (and most likely a little older than that).
We won’t really know the exact answer until Nintendo shares details on exactly how long the time skip is between both games. The developer doesn’t particularly like talking about the complicated Zelda timeline, but there’s a good chance we’ll get an official book on TotK that confirms some character ages so that theorists can figure out how long it’s been since BotW.
