Diablo 4 DLSS: What is DLAA and Should I Use It?

Diablo 4 is one of the few games that support the DLAA variant of DLSS. Even if you’re an Nvidia aficionado, there’s a good chance you’ve never run into DLAA, and the in-game description doesn’t list the advantages or disadvantages of using it over regular DLSS. In fact, because the setting isn’t explained, you could use it thinking it gives an even bigger performance boost, but unfortunately, that’s not the case.

Should I use DLAA or regular DLSS in Diablo 4?

Most people will be better off using regular Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) in Diablo 4. In a nutshell, Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing (DLAA) is DLSS, but without the upscaling. Meaning, you’ll get an even sharper image at the expense of any performance-boosting effects of DLSS. Essentially, it has the benefits and impact of DLDSR but is set at the game level instead of the driver level. If you’re running an RTX 4090, it’s an option if you’re playing at 1440p or under. However, even with that beast of a card, you’ll notice your framerate dropping when using DLAA at 4K.

Understanding the distinction between DLAA and DLSS is crucial in optimizing your Diablo 4 gameplay experience. DLAA focuses primarily on refining the visual quality by sharpening the image, while DLSS combines this enhancement with a performance boost by upscaling lower-resolution frames.
