Fable is making a comeback, and video game industry veteran (and co-creator of the franchise) Peter Molyneux is happy the new entry will star Richard Ayoade.
Though Molyneux gets his name wrong…
In a recent interview with Game Reactor, the Fable and Dungeon Keeper designer describes Ayoade as being “perfect” for the role.
However, when asked about his thoughts on Fable, Molyneux makes a slight bluff by referring to the actor/writer as “Richard Alawati” instead, admitting that he wasn’t quite sure how to pronounce his surname.
Molyneux goes on to say that he likes how the character that Ayoade plays – in this case, a giant – is obsessed with vegetables. He adds that this is “very Fable,” before reminiscing about his days being a designer on the games and how the humor is derived from the players themselves rather than from written jokes.
Many of you will remember Richard Ayoade as Moss from the British sitcom The IT Crowd, which ran for four seasons. He also wrote and directed the BAFTA-nominated film Submarine and even starred alongside Ben Stiller and Jonah Hill in the 2012 sci-fi comedy The Watch.
A few weeks ago, we were treated to a trailer for the upcoming Fable, which showed Ayoade as the aforementioned giant. At the moment, there’s no release date for the new game, which is being developed by Forza Horizon studio Playground Games.
The original Fable entries were created by Peter Molyneux and the team at Lionhead Studios, which also made the Black & White games. Unfortunately, the company was closed down in 2016, four years after Molyneux’s departure.
