The much-anticipated Diablo 4 Season 1 arrives on July 20, causing many players to ask what to do before the Season of the Malignant begins. While players will need to start a new character when the first season arrives, there’s actually quite a lot that can be done in the game to prepare. That’s right, you don’t need to start entirely from scratch, particularly when it comes to renown. Here’s a quick checklist of what you can do before Season 1 starts for Diablo 4.
List of what to do before Diablo 4 Season 1
Completing the following tasks will help you prepare for Diablo 4 Season 1 in order of importance:
- Finish the campaign – You will need to finish all six acts of the main story before you can even start a new character for Season 1. Along the way, you can also grab a mount for quicker traversal throughout Sanctuary.
- Upgrade to World Tier 4 – There’s still plenty to do after the campaign. Continue the priority questline after taking down Lilith to upgrade to Torment difficulty. This will ensure you’re getting the most out of every kill as soon as season 1 starts.
- Discover the entire map – Every region of the map that you discover will earn you a small amount of renown. Unlike side quests, dungeons, and strongholds, this renown will actually carry over to Season 1. As a quick warning, some of the regions are a bit tough to see on the map.
- Activate every Altar of Lilith – The renown from these Altars will also carry over to Season 1. There are also four Altars in the Dry Steppes region that provide extra paragon points that we hope will appear once you’ve reached Level 50.
- Think about a class and name – For some players, picking a class and a name can be the hardest part of creating a character.
We recommend using one of the many interactive maps for Diablo 4 to help you track every region discovered and the location of every Altar.
The renown that you’ll earn from discovering every area and getting every Altar will be enough to complete the first two tiers of renown in every region. This will give you a significant head start on getting all of the skill points and paragon points for your new character.
