Google Announces Nexus Player Console

Google has revealed the Nexus Player, a $99 circular console with a flat top that will be compatible with a large library of Android apps. Requiring a TV with HDMI input as well as an HDMI cable, the console comes with a 1.8GHz Quad Core, Intel Atom, 802.11ac 2×2 (MIMO) HDMI out, two AAA batteries, and several peripherals.

The Nexus Player will come with a voice-activated remote for playing games and searching for shows, as well as a gamepad, sold separately, for games that would benefit with a controller. The voice-activated remote will apparently allow you press the mic button, say "Gravity," and you can then see Sandra Bullock panicking in space. Like the PlayStation 3, online multiplayer will be free.

The Nexus Player will have access to Google Play with a host of movies like The Big Lebowski and A Million Ways to Die in the West and to your apps from Android, iOS, PC, Mac, or Chromebook. These apps include Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Pandora, TED, and Vevo.
