Last week, rumors strongly suggested Valve was working on a new game called Deadlock. It was said that the Half-Life and Portal studio could make an announcement at any point. While we’re still waiting for official word, a report seems to confirm the game is, indeed, in development.
Said to have Dota vibes
In a recent report from Insider Gaming, with a video accompanying the article, some details about Deadlock have apparently been confirmed to Tom Henderson. As well as information, gameplay footage has also been shared, but on the understanding that none of it be made public.
The video goes on to say that details leaked by X user Gabe Follower are correct; Valve is working on a new game called Deadlock. It’s said to be in the alpha stage of development, with “lots of experimental gameplay features and art assets.”
It’s described as a 6v6 hero-based shooter, and players – presumably testers – are likening Deadlock to Dota in terms of “gameplay loop and mechanics.” Insider Gaming has also shared a full list of all 19 heroes that feature in the game. The list is as follows:
- Abrams
- Bebop
- Dynamo
- Grey Talon
- Haze
- Infernus
- Ivy
- Kelvin
- Lady Geist
- Lash
- McGinnis
- Mo & Krill
- Paradox
- Seven
- Vindicta
- Warden
- Wraith
- Yamato
In the midst of this information being confirmed to Henderson and Insider Gaming, some footage from the current build of Deadlock has also been apparently leaked. The footage suggests gameplay will take cues from the likes of Overwatch, but with a lean towards a MOBA style.
However, it’s almost certain Valve will issue a takedown of the video, so we’ve deemed it unnecessary to provide a link.
One thing many will be wondering is when they can expect a release of the game. Given that it’s still in early development, a launch window can’t be known at this stage. However, the video above suggests it could come out in 2025, but this is just speculation for now.
