Psychonauts 3

How Psychonauts 2 sets up a potential Psychonauts 3

Psychonauts 2 potentially sets up Psychonauts 3 by its conclusion, which throws a number of the twists at the player that concludes this portion of Raz’s adventure, while setting up for more. This suggests that a sequel or potentially DLC could be on their way, if developer Double Fine pulls at this thread. Here’s how the game sets up a sequel following the game’s ending battle with Maligula.

Spoilers follow.

Psychonauts 2 post-credits teases Psychonauts 3 or DLC

Psychonauts 3

A post-credits scene for Psychonauts 2 featuring Dr. Loboto seemingly sets up events for Psychonauts 3 or some form of DLC story expansion.

After the opening level in Loboto’s mind, the main villain of Psychonauts 1 and the Rhombus of Ruin VR game spends the entirety of Psychonauts 2 semi-conscious and strapped down in Sasha Nein’s lab in the Motherlobe building. However, that all changes following the events of the game’s conclusion. After the credits, Raz is promoted to junior Psychonaut and can explore the Psychonauts 2 world without constraints, including revisiting all the characters and seeing how they’ve been affected.

With Sasha and Milla enjoying a drink in the bowling alley, a visit to Sasha’s lab prompts a post-credits cutscene where Raz catches Dr. Loboto in the fast-travel tube. After giving a pathetic lie, Loboto admits that he’s escaping, and says he may return to the Whispering Rocks Psychic Summer Camp from the first Psychonauts — where apparently he has a kid!

While Rhombus of Ruin suggests that Loboto may not be evil anymore, this could well be used for a story follow-up, along with a possible return to Whispering Rocks. With all the new characters introduced in Psychonauts 2 and Raz now able to go on actual missions for the Psychonauts, Double Fine has more than enough to build on for a Psychonauts 3.
