Disney Play

Disney Streaming Service Is Called Disney Play

It’s 2018 and we’re still suckers for streaming services, and this time it looks like our newest obsession will be going by the name of Disney Play. The Disney streaming service has ensnared our hearts and minds the moment it got announced to be coming sometime in the year 2019, but now with an official name we can rest easy knowing that we’ve got a title for the reason why we’ll be losing a lot more sleep when it releases worldwide.

The Disney Play title may seem on the nose for some, but it isn’t much of a surprise that Disney is trying their hardest to get their streaming service out there – especially as they’ll be competing against media giants, Netflix. But it isn’t just Netflix they’ll have to try and overcome with their audience, but media services such as the Apple store and Amazon.

According to Screen Rant, Disney have already been planning ahead of time by developing their own original content as well as putting a stop to releasing their content on Netflix and other streaming services. This means that for those who were looking forward to seeing future Marvel and Star Wars films on Netflix like they usually do, it’s time to get the tissues ready.

Of course, this move by Disney has left some fans feeling more than a little angry, mostly due to them not seeing the benefit of having to pay for two different services. It is a reaction that is similar to how Variety reported that Disney would be playing “catch-up” due to losing about “$300 million in annual revenue by abandoning its pay-rights deal with Netflix.”

Though, considering how huge future films such as Frozen 2 and Star Wars IX will be, it isn’t entirely out of the question that Disney will make that money back sooner rather than later.
