Some high-rank equipment recipes call on a Wyvern Gem to craft in Monster Hunter World. The Wyvern Gem can be found on multiple High Rank monsters, which means you don’t have access to this item until at least mid-way through the game. Wyvern Gems are also not to be confused with Bird Wyvern Gems which are a completely different item required to craft another set of armor and weapons.
Below we’ll show you were to find Wyvern Gem locations in Monster Hunter World and as a bonus, we’ll throw in the info on the Bird Wyvern Gem as well.
Where to Find Wyvern Gem in Monster Hunter World
You can get this 7 rarity item from multiple large monsters in Monster Hunter World. However, this item is a rare drop, and so you’ll have to grind quite a bit to build up a supply of them. Unfortunately, there are a ton of weapons and High Rank armor that require the Wyvern Gem in their construction, so it’s an easy item to get stuck on when you’re trying to equip yourself with better gear. The gem has a possibility of dropping from the following monsters:
- Barroth (High Rank): Wildspire Waste
- Diablos (High Rank): Wildspire Waste
- Jyuratodus (High Rank): Wildspire Waste
- Lavasioth (High Rank): Elder’s Recess
- Paolumu (High Rank): Coral Highlands
- Radobaan (High Rank): Rotten Vale
- Tobi-Kadachi (High Rank): Ancient Forest
There is also a small, small chance (3%) that a Wyvern Gem will drop upon completion of the 7-star quest “A Fiery Convergence.” With such a low rate it makes it almost impossible to farm Wyvern Gems from this quest, but it’s a good way to shake things up if you get tired of fighting the above monsters.
Where to Get Bird Wyvern Gems in Monster Hunter World
You can get Bird Wyvern Gems (a whole different item from Wyvern Gems) by hunting the Pukei-Pukei. This is another 7 rarity item, which means you won’t see it until you reach around half-way through the main story. You can hunt the following monsters for a chance at finding a Bird Wyvern Gem:
Pukei-Pukei (High Rank): Ancient Forest
Kulu-Ya-Ku (High Rank): Ancient Forest, Wildspire Waste
Tzitzi-Ya-Ku (High Rank): Corel Highlands
One thing to keep in mind when trying to farm these items is that quests directly involving the monsters listed also have a chance of dropping them as a reward. So, if you’re tired of heading out on expeditions, try completing some high-rank quests to hunt/capture these monsters to switch things up.
