With battle royale being all the rage, it wouldn’t surprise me if huge shooter franchises like Call of Duty also began to incorporate the mode.
Call of Duty Battle Royale: Call of Duty Online
Call of Duty Online, which is a free-to-player version of the game made for China, already has a battle royale mode! The Call of Duty Online battle royale “Survival” game type has 18 players facing off in a fight to the death.
Analyst Daniel Ahmad drew attention to the mode on Twitter, back in November:
Call of Duty Online, the free to play game for mainland China published by Tencent, is getting a ‘survival mode’ in December.
It’s effectively an 18 player PVP Battle Royale mode. It’s similar to PUBG but has a few differences.

The 10-minute gameplay clip over on Zhenya COD (YouTube) offers a great look at how Call of Duty Online‘s battle royale mode works:
Call of Duty Battle Royale: Call of Duty 2018
With Call of Duty Online having incorporated a battle royale mode, it’s not hard to imagine that the upcoming 2018 worldwide release will have some kind of survival mode of its own. Battle royale has been huge for games like PUBG and Fortnite, and I’d be very surprised if Activision and Treyarch Studios aren’t pushing to include the mode in this year’s title.
Call of Duty Battle Royale: Call of Duty WWII
It’s also possible that we’ll see Call of Duty: WWII get a battle royale mode. The next game isn’t going to release until November, so it could be the case that Sledgehammer Games is already working on a battle royale game type of their own.
