Sea of Thieves doesn’t feature a linear progression system, with you picking out voyages from one of the game’s three guilds before embarking on them to acquire items that will earn you more gold. There’s no leveling up, aside from the increased reputation you’ll earn from completing voyages for these guilds, which will then allow you to unlock guild-specific items for your pirate.
However, while Sea of Thieves relies on this gameplay loop for the bulk of its activities, actually working out how to embark on a voyage can be a little tricky without some help. Here’s how to do voyages in Sea of Thieves.
How to Do Voyages in Sea of Thieves
Firstly, you’ll need to find a guild. When you start up Sea of Thieves, you’ll find yourself in a tavern in an outpost. These outposts are where you’ll buy new items, get yourself a nice pint of grog, and most importantly accept and complete voyages.
Each outpost features a different layout, though they each have a similar theme. The Gold Hoarders should be found on the beach in a little tent, the Merchant Alliance on the dock, and the Order of Souls in a more traditional cabin like the equipment shops you can find located in the outpost.
Your initial voyages will be free, though later on, some will ask you to hand over gold in exchange for them. To begin a voyage, accept them from a guild, with you able to have a maximum of 3 activated at any given time. Note that if a voyage is proposed by your crewmate but you have the same one in your inventory, upon completing that mission, it will only appear as completed for your crewmate. You will still have access to the same rewards and achievements, though if you want to complete it in your inventory, you’ll have to propose it yourself.
How to Propose Voyages in Sea of Thieves
To propose a voyage in Sea of Thieves, head to your ship at the dock. Walk into the captain’s room and from there you’ll see a table on which you can lay down a voyage, with it allowing you to select which voyage you which to embark on.
As Sea of Thieves is a communal game, you’ll need to have your team’s backing before you set sail on your chosen voyage. For them to do this, they need to make their way over to the table and vote on the voyage you’ve proposed. However, they can also lay down their own voyage, and vote on that instead.
When all crew members have voted on a voyage, maps, clues, and other relevant information will be distributed to each player in the crew, accessible from their item wheel. It’s then a case of traveling to the destination of that voyage, completing your objective, and returning to the outpost in order to cash in your goods.
