With the August release of Monster Hunter World PC fast approaching, the topic of cross-play has reared its ugly head again. But will Capcom’s beast-hunting hit be able to be used cross-platform between PS4 and PC users? I don’t want to crush your hopes but, ehh, it’s not looking likely.
Monster Hunter World PC Cross-Platform: Can I Play PS4 Users on PC?
As of the game’s PC launch, Monster Hunter World will neither support mods nor cross-platform support with PS4.
“I want to synch these up as much as possible, but as mentioned previously regarding title updates, the differences in versions between platforms may prevent them being completely the same time,” producer Ryozo Tsujimoto tells PC Gamer.
What that essentially means is that because PS4 has a several-month headstart in terms of patches and updates compared to Monster Hunter World PC, it’s not going to be logistical for the two to coincide. It may sound like a fairly lame excuse, but it’s an excuse nonetheless. At least Capcom have got their eyes on making sure the PC version launches as smooth as possible before focusing on other things.
So, there will be no multiplayer hunting groups across consoles; users will have to stick with their lot on either PS4 or PC… for the time being.
Monster Hunter World PC Cross-Play: Is it a Possibility in Future?
While this cross-platform debate won’t rage anywhere near as strongly as the Fortnite PS4 cross-play controversy, it’s clear that Capcom are very much aware of cross-platform being at least viable. In any case, if the situational roadblock (i.e. patches finally lining up) can be cleared ASAP, expect Monster Hunter World PC cross-platform to become a realistic prospect. I wouldn’t put it past the dev team earmarking the game’s first birthday in 2019 as the starting point to put the wheels in motion for such a feature.
