After 13 years of waiting, we are finally in the midst of Kingdom Hearts 3. Available now on Xbox One and PS4, Sora, Goofy, and Donald are back, but even though the series is known for its single-player offerings, is there perhaps any Kingdom Hearts 3 co-op or multiplayer in this latest addition to the series. It would certainly be a game-changer. Here’s what you need to know.
Kingdom Hearts 3 Co-op or multiplayer | Is there any multiplayer in Kingdom Hearts 3?
Multiplayer modes have appeared in one form or another in previous Kingdom Hearts games. Unfortunately, there is no Kingdom Hearts 3 co-op or multiplayer. That’s right. Kingdom Hearts 3 is a single-player only experience. While there should be more than enough content for anyone, it will be a shame for some that there is no multiplayer or co-op of any sort.
Will Kingdom Hearts 3 co-op or multiplayer ever happen?
As stated above, multiplayer and co-op modes are nothing new to the Kingdom Hearts series. Notably, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days on the DS featured co-op missions and Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep featured several multiplayer modes for up to six players on PSP. The team behind Kingdom Hearts 3 decided to make the game single-player only, however.
Despite this, there may be a chance that multiplayer of some sort is added into Kingdom Hearts 3 in the future. Speaking to Engadget in 2015, Tetsuya Nomura (series director) explained that online was “part of [his] wish list.” Nomura explained that Square Enix wants “gamers to play for a while and an online component helps this.” Nomura further explained that “While we may be focusing on the main campaign at the moment, but it’s not as if we’re going to tack on an online function at the end. In fact, we’ve already got plenty of ideas brewing at the moment.”
Who knows? Perhaps Nomura will add in some kind of online multiplayer or co-op to Kingdom Hearts 3 in the future. Fingers (and Keyblades) crossed.
