There are a ton of great weapons for players to craft and acquire in Dauntless. If you want to unlock your Slayer’s ultimate potential, though, you’re going to want to get your hands on some of the Exotic weapons available. In this guide we’ll cover how to craft The Hunger Exotic Sword, one of several Exotic items available to players. This task won’t be easy, though, so make sure that you’ve established a basic understanding of the game and have progressed far enough to unlock Heroic Patrols, as you’re going to need to take on some of the toughest enemies in the game to unlock The Hunger Exotic Sword.
Dauntless | How to get The Hunger Exotic Sword Blueprint
Getting your hands on The Hunger won’t be easy, but it’s a journey well worth taking. What sets this Exotic weapon above the rest is its unique combination of two perks, lifedrain and lifesteal. When utilizing The Hunger’s Overdrive skill, players will slowly lose their health as lifedrain is activated. However, they will see an increase in damage. This also activated the lifesteal perk, which allows players to receive health back from dealing damage to Behemoths in battle. This overall healing percentage can be raised later on by activating cells that increase damage.
Now that you know why The Hunger is so special, let’s actually talk about how players can get their hands on it. As stated in the opening of this article, players are going to need to first unlock Heroic level activities. This includes Pursuits and Patrols. Basically, these are much more difficult versions of the normal Pursuits and Patrols, and it allows players to take on higher-powered Behemoths, thus unlocking the ability to acquire new gear.
Before you can craft The Hunger, you’re going to need to unlock The Hunger Exotic Sword Blueprint, a special item that players can acquire randomly during specific fights. To acquire this particular item, you will need to take part in Heroic Patrols or just complete Shrowd Pursuits. The Shrowd is one of the powerful Umbral Behemoths, and as such players will find that this creature weighs in at a hefty Threat Level of 17. This makes it one of the most difficult enemies to fight in the game as of the time of this writing, and as such, bringing along appropriate firepower is suggested.
Unfortunately, the drop for the blueprint is completely randomized. This means players will need to keep completing Heroic Patrols or Heroic Shrowd Pursuits until they are lucky enough to have the item drop as a reward. Now, when it does finally drop, the second part of your journey begins.
Dauntless | How to craft The Hunger Exotic Sword
With the blueprint unlocked, it’s time to start farming for materials. You’re going to need to acquire an assortment of different items to craft this weapon, all of which come from some of the more difficult enemies in the game.
Altogether, you’re going to need the following items to craft The Hunger Exotic Sword:
- 150 Rams
- 6 Elemental Furyplate
- 3 Elemental Tailgem
- 3 Shrowd Feather
- 4 Twisted Shadowspur
But how exactly do you get all of these items, you might ask. We can help with that, too.
To gather the Shrowd Feather and Shadowspur, head into Heroic Shrowd Pursuits and focus on breaking off parts of the Shrowd during battle. After a few battles, you should have more than enough Shrowd Feather and Shadowspur, which means you can move on to the next couple of components. Of course, Rams shouldn’t be an issue, as this the game’s primary currency, and you should have plenty to cover the cost of the crafting and any initial upgrades you want to make.
Gathering Elemental Furyplate and Elemental Tailgem won’t be as easy. You will need to harvest the Elemental Furyplate by breaking parts off of the legs of Behemoths that are Threat Level 8 and above, while they are enraged and glowing red. To gather up the needed Elemental Tailgem, you’re going to need to break the tail of an elemental Behemoth that is Threat Level 8 and above, within two minutes of starting the fight. It’s a tough process, and one that players will probably make a few mistakes while completing. Do not lose faith, just keep trying and you’ll eventually have all the items that you need.
With all of the parts and items gathered, make your way to Ramsgate and craft The Hunger to add it to your collection of weapons.
Dauntless | How to upgrade The Hunger Exotic Sword
Now that you’ve successfully crafted The Hunger, let’s talk a little bit about upgrading it. Upgrading weapons is important in Dauntless, as you’ll need to continue to power up your items to progress more into the game. For the first few levels, players will require various amounts of Rams and Dull Arcstone. Dull Arcstone can be farmed by completing Dire Patrols with the daily bonus active. Focus on breaking off Behemoth parts, and you shouldn’t have much trouble farming the Arcstone that you need.
Once you reach Level +5, though, you’re going to find yourself staring down a list of rather unusual items if you want to continue upgraded The Hunger Exotic Sword. To upgrade to Level +6, you’re going to have to gather the following items:
- 220 Rams
- 4 Corrupted Voidfeather
- 13 Dull Arcstone
- 2 Darkbeak Fragment
- 6 Neutral Clawgem
- 3 Neutral Furytooth
You can gather Darkbeak Fragment and Corrupted Voidfeather by breaking off Shrowd parts during a fight. You can also acquire Neutral Glawgem by breaking limb parts off Neutral Behemoths Threat Level 8 and above within two minutes of starting the fight. Neutral Furytooth can be earned by breaking parts off of the head of Neutral Behemoths Threat Level 8 and above.
From Level +7 to Level +9, players will need various amounts of Shining Arcstone and Dull Arcstone. After reaching Level 10+, though, players are going to need to acquire the following list of items:
- 400 Rams
- 23 Dull Arcstone
- 2 Nightmare Shard
- 75 Shining Arcstone
- 8 Shrowd Feather
- 3 Darkbeak Fragment
- 3 Dark Tailfeather
- 6 Aetheric Claw
- 3 Elemental Skullgem
You should already know how to acquire most of these parts from farming for additional levels already. But, if you’re having trouble, remember that Nightmare Shard is an Epic rarity drop that comes from the Shrowd, which means it won’t drop all the time. You’ll also need to start taking down Aether Charged Behemoths Threat Level 8 and above if you want to farm for Aetheric Claw. Finally, Elemental Skullgem will come from breaking the head parts off of Elemental Behemoths Threat Level 8 and above within two minutes of starting the fight.
To finish off upgrading The Hunger all the way up to Level +15, you’ll need to farm for Peerless Arcstone and save up Rams. As an Exotic weapon, it’s very expensive to upgrade and progress through the levels, but the lifedrain and lifesteal combination make it exceptionally well worth the trouble that you’ll go through to acquire it and upgrade it completely.
Now that you have The Hunger Exotic Sword and know everything you need to know to upgrade it fully, it’s time to get out there and start taking down all those pesky Behemoths. Make sure to keep all of the elemental weaknesses in mind when you head into Pursuits or Patrols. You’ll also want to bring along any extra hands you can to make the journey easier.
