You’ll have to fight Graveward in Borderlands 3 when you reach the vault on Eden-6. Figuring out how to beat him isn’t too hard, but he’s a damage sponge, so you’ll want to make sure you’re doing the most DPS you can to end the battle quickly. Below we’ll show you how to defeat Graveward in Borderlands 3 and the best way to farm it for items.
How to beat Graveward in Borderlands 3
You’ll first meet Graveward at the end of The Floating Tomb on Eden-6. By that point, you’re likely around the level 25-30 mark, and you’ll probably have worked your playstyle out. Graveward is a boss that requires stamina rather than tactics, and you really just have to worry about doing as much damage as you can.
Helpfully, Graveward has probably the most weak points of any boss in Borderlands 3. The three yellow dots on his head and the three on its chest along with the big yellow core are all points you can shoot to score critical hits. This boss doesn’t do anything to cover its weak points at any point in the fight, so you can just hammer criticals the whole battle. In fact, when it raises its hands for attacks, the yellow orbs on them are also a weak point, you can shoot for massive damage.
There are a few attacks to watch out for when fighting Graveward that can catch you off guard if you’re not careful. The biggest one is when it picks up the platform you’re standing on and tilts it. If you’re too close to the edge, it’s possible to fall off. To avoid this, you can duck down in the small holes in the ground. This will allow you to keep your footing and make Graveward’s attempt to throw you off ineffective.
One of Graveward’s attacks, a heat beam fired from its head, sweeps the entire arena and is unavoidable. You don’t have to worry too much about this move, as you can slide through it and minimize the damage it causes. However, you will want to keep an eye on your health, as this attack can be a killing blow.
When Graveward punches towards the entrance to the arena, its hands will glow, allowing you to attack for critical hits, and it’ll fire a few easy-to-avoid orbs. When it retracts its hand, some enemies will spawn. It’s essential you kill these quickly and pick up the ammo and health they drop. As I said earlier, Graveward soaks up the bullets, and the first time you fight it, you’ll almost definitely run out of ammunition if you don’t pick up more during the fight.
Graveward’s most threatening attack is its vomit move. When it rears its head back, you’ll want to move back towards the entrance to avoid the toxic goo it pukes up. This stuff can hit fairly hard and does damage over time, which can overwhelm you if you’re at low health.
The biggest tip to beat Graveward in Borderlands 3 is just to keep firing. It never makes much of an attempt to defend, and you’ll have a wide-open target the whole fight. Just don’t get complacent in the middle of the battle and make sure to keep an eye on your shields and health.
How to farm Graveward in Borderlands 3
Once you’ve beaten the game, Graveward becomes one of the best enemies to farm legendaries from. It’s an easy, straightforward fight, and you can beat him, check his loot, and get out within 30 seconds or so.
To farm Graveward in Borderlands 3, fast travel to The Floating Tomb on Eden-6. This will place you right beside Graveward’s area. Once there, jump down and focus your fire on the large yellow weak spot on its chest.
If you’re around level 50 or so, you’ll be able to take Graveward out in less than 20 seconds. The only thing you have to worry about is it starting out the fight by tilting the arena, which is easy to avoid as long as you anticipate it.
Graveward has a chance to drop most of the non-unique legendaries in Borderlands 3. This, coupled with how fast you can take it out, makes it the perfect boss for farming weapons post-game. The best three guns you can farm from Gravemind are (somewhat subjectively):
- Lyuda Sniper Rifle
- Unforgiven Pistol
- Conference Call Shotgun
However, since Graveward drops a huge variety of rare and legendary grade items, it can take a while to get the one you want. Fortunately, you can easily restart the fight by immediately quitting once you’ve checked the loot over and reloading your game. This will put you right back at The Floating Tomb fast travel point, and you can just jump back down to the arena and do the fight again.
What do you get for beating Graveward in Borderlands 3
For beating Graveward in Borderlands 3, you’ll gain entry to the Eden-6 vault and get a pretty awesome reward: the Eridian Synchronizer. The Eridian Synchronizer allows you to equip artifacts, of which you probably have a few already. Artifacts give you stat boosts and are generally very valuable items.
In addition to the synchronizer, you’ll get a good smattering of rare and legendary grade weapons. Some bosses in Borderlands 3 don’t pay out too well, but Graveward isn’t one of them. As stated above, Graveward is one of the best bosses to farm in the game, and you’ll likely kill him so much he’ll feel like an old friend.
