Knowing how to heal in The Surge 2 isn’t quite like what you’ve seen from other Souls-like games. There is something close to an Estus Flask equivalent but it’s a little different here. So in case you’re being beaten down and can’t get up, here’s how to figure out The Surge 2 healing mechanic.
The Surge 2 Healing | How to heal
There are multiple ways to heal in The Surge 2. While visiting a Medbay will top you off, you’ll most likely be healing through injectables that you have to equip in the implants part of the inventory screen (which you can do away from Medbays). The Medi-Voltaic Injection is probably the one a lot of people will use the most because of how useful it is and how early you get it. This injectible uses one battery for one small health boost. You gain battery charge by hitting enemies and this allows you have multiple small healing items that you can refill during battle rather than a few bigger health boosts that you can’t replenish like the aforementioned Estus Flasks from Dark Souls or Blood Vials from Bloodborne.

To use this injectible, make sure you have enough core power (which you can increase by leveling up) to equip it. Then build up battery by hitting enemies and this is represented by the blue bars at the bottom of the screen. Once you have at least one section charged, hold down the Circle or B button on you controller to convert that battery to your health pack. Then you can press that same button to use it. Batteries can also be used to dismember enemies so it lets you make choices whether you want to save batteries for possible upgrades or to spend batteries on health so you don’t die.
But there are also a couple other ways to heal from injectibles. There is also the Cellular Regenerator, which also uses a battery but slowly heals at least half of your health over a slower period of time. There is also the Medi-Force Converter, which is an injectible that converts the damage you deal into health. If you have more than one type of these injectibles equipped, you can cycle through them by pressing right on the D-pad or you can hold in right to pull up a wheel. Just keep in mind that you’ll have to find these other types of injectibles first.
