The Outer Worlds has plenty of numbers and icons on its HUD but the flashing gun symbol is the most peculiar. It’s probably there a lot for plenty of people and it’s not easy to discern exactly what it means. So what does the flashing gun symbol mean in The Outer Worlds? It thankfully does not mean you have an email.
The Outer Worlds Flashing Gun Symbol | What does it mean?
When you see a flashing gun symbol in The Outer Worlds (which is highlighted in the above picture), it means one thing: you need to repair your currently equipped weapon. You might have been neglecting that as it is one of many systems in this big RPG. If your weapon is in dire need of repair, it will blink and be red.
You can repair your weapon in a few different ways. The first is just repairing it straight from the menu. Just hold Triangle on PS4 or Y on Xbox One on the inventory screen to repair everything or just press that same button to repair stuff individually. This is the cheapest way to repair your gear.
You can also visit a vending machine. Once you get to one, open up the menu and tab over to the repair tab. You can either hold in a button to repair everything you have equipped or you can do it individually. It only costs a few Weapon Parts (which you get from breaking down weapons or out in the wild) but it does make your equipment more effective.
The second way to repair your gear is to visit a workbench. These are usually where you upgrade and tinker with your guns but you can also repair your gear here too. Keep in mind that you also have to repair your armor and helmet too in addition to your gun and armor takes Armor Parts that you get from breaking down armor in your inventory or find throughout the world. You can repair these using the same method. The wrench icon in the inventory menu shows you the condition of your gear. The more filled up or highlight the wrench is, the better condition it is in.
And, of course, you can just switch off of the gear that is busted. You’re usually getting better equipment anyway, so this is a viable strategy. But it is still wise to repair everything somewhat regularly. You can also get the High Maintenance perk to make your equipment more durable, if that’s the path you want to take.
