With other popular games getting the ray tracing treatment, it’s only logical to assume that other titles will soon be getting RTX support. So, what about Fortnite RTX? Will ray tracing be coming to one of the most-played games around? Here’s what you need to know about RTX coming to Fortnite, not only on PC, but potentially on the next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Does Fortnite have RTX support?
Fortnite does not currently have RTX support. That means that even the all-powerful Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti, the most popular ray tracing enabled card, can’t activate “Fortnite RTX On.”

Of course, as we recently saw with Minecraft, RTX can be added to the experience at a much later date. While Fortnite doesn’t yet support ray tracing, it’s possible that developers will add the feature in the future.
With that said, you must consider that ray tracing takes up a lot of compute power, drastically reducing the frame-rate. For single-player or PvE experiences, where players aren’t fighting one another, this isn’t as big of an issue, but for games like Fortnite, where smooth frame-rates matter the most, an RTX option might not be the wisest thing to implement.
Fortnite does have a PvE mode in the form of Save the World, which would likely be a better target for improving visuals with ray tracing and other fancy features. For Battle Royale, however, I think most would agree that a smoother gameplay experience is a bigger priority than fancier graphics.
At the time of writing, it’s only PC players with RTX-enabled cards that can take advantage of ray tracing. However, in the near future, next-gen consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X should also be able to leverage ray tracing features. Imagine: Fortnite on PS5 with RTX on! That could soon be a possibility!
