Fortnite has been around for a number of years now, which has led to some cosmetics and players being called “OG” or “O.G.” in the game. But, what does OG mean in Fortnite? Here’s the definition of the OG slang term, plus what in-game items and users it refers to.
What does O.G. mean in Fortnite?
The Fortnite community uses a lot of slang, largely because it tends to be made up of younger players. One of the more common sayings is OG, with even developer Epic Games getting in on the action. There’s a new Fortnite Glider called “The O.G.” and its appearance gives a clue as to the meaning of the abbreviation. Players need to have been playing for a long time to pick up on the significance, though.
OG (O.G.) stands for “Original Gangster” in Fortnite.
It was originally a rap term, though it’s now widely used in a more general sense to indicate that something is “old school” and/or original. The Royale Originals Outfits, O.G. Glider, and Throwback Axe Pickaxe are all examples of OG cosmetics in the game as they reference default items from the launch of Fortnite. A player could also be described as an OG if they’ve been playing Fortnite since around the time it released.
While OG doesn’t necessarily indicate that a person or item is literally “gangsta,” it’s always an indication of originality. Calling someone or something old in a roundabout way might not seem nice, but OG is usually used as a term of endearment and indicates nostalgia. The fact players flock to purchase Vintage Ramirez and Jonsey the First Outfits is evidence of that; people want to relive the good old days with the original (OG) default skins.
