Do I need to watch the other seasons before The Walking Dead Season 11?

The final season of The Walking Dead has started on AMC, which has renewed interest in the show. Those who haven’t seen it before are wondering whether they need to watch the other ten seasons before checking out The Walking Dead Season 11 or if they can just pick it up and catch the ending. We’ll take a look at how accessible TWD is for those who haven’t seen it before.

Surprisingly, it’d be relatively easy to watch The Walking Dead Season 11 without seeing the previous seasons. The two-part premiere didn’t require a lot of knowledge of the show to enjoy, and watching or reading a synopsis would be all viewers need to catch up.

At this point, the show is in a very different place than it was even a few seasons ago. Major characters like Rick and Carl Grimes, and Michonne have departed the series, and the plotlines have been tightened down considerably. So far, there’s just an A and B story surrounding the group at the Commonwealth and the party trying to retake Meridian. But, since we don’t have any previous knowledge of those places, long-time viewers and newcomers are discovering them at the same pace.

Of course, there are references to past events that might go over the heads of those who haven’t watched the show before. New viewers will likely wonder why Maggie hates Negan so much, who the Reapers are, or why Eugene is the way he is, but this is very much the start of a new adventure for the series.

However, we do suggest that those that have the time should watch the first ten seasons. The first seven seasons, in particular, are among the best TV ever made. So, even those that start with season 11 should go back and see what makes the show so unique.
