Can you play with fake Pokemon cards?

Pokemon TCG is one of the deepest and most beloved card games out there and every trainer wants as strong a deck as possible. This demand for cards, especially the rarest like Special Delivery Bidoof, can lead to a growth of fake Pokemon cards on the market. We’ve got the answer to a question that’s bound to be on any trainer’s mind: can you play with fake Pokemon cards?

Pokemon TCG: Can I use fake cards?

Unsurprisingly, no. You can’t use fake Pokemon cards in official battles – at least if you don’t want to get caught and punished.

While there is no official word from the Pokemon Card Game organizers on the use of fake cards, former contestants have made it clear that random deck checks can occur at any time during an event. Therefore, if you’re attempting to use fake cards in an official tournament, you’ll be swiftly removed.

Equally, if you’re trying to use fake cards in a tournament, you’ll likely be spotted by your fellow contestants. Fake cards aren’t hard to notice, mainly due to their general lack of printing quality compared to official cards. A keen-eyed competitor could spot this and call you out. Not only will you be removed, but none of your peers will want to trade with you.

Of course, this only applies to Pokemon TCG tournaments. In casual battles, there won’t be an adjudicator to check the legitimacy of your deck. However, using fake cards is never a good move in any scenario, no matter how casual. It reduces the enjoyment for others as you’ll have an unfair advantage. Equally, it doesn’t obey the rules of fair play and respect that Pokemon strives for. Therefore, we recommend you don’t use fake Pokemon cards, regardless of the scenario.
