Farming Simulator 22: How to mow grass, bale it, and make hay and silage

Grass is one of the most versatile crops in Farming Simulator 22. It can be found almost everywhere and grows in the space between fields, which means mowing and making bales can be a great use of players’ time when they’re waiting for their crops to grow. Players can even use it to make Hay or Silage, which are both beneficial to livestock farmers.

How do I mow grass and bale it in Farming Simulator 22?

Players can mow grass in Farming Simulator 22 by either buying or leasing a mowing attachment for a tractor or purchasing a dedicated mower. Each mower has a different mowing pattern, and the more expensive models tend to let players mow a wider area.

Mowed grass is ejected from a mower in big heaps. These piles can then be either picked up with a forage harvester with the correct header or a loading wagon. Loose grass can then be stored in a silo.

Alternatively, players can use a Windrower to sort the grass into easy-to-pick-up rows. Then, grass bales can be produced by collecting it with a baler. However, if a player plans on making hay, they should not bale the grass immediately. Also, note that each baler creates a specifically sized and shaped bale. The size and shape of a bale will affect which Bale Collectors or Bale Wrappers can be used with them.

Obviously, this process goes much more quickly in multiplayer. On solo farms, the effort might not be worth the reward.

How to make Hay and Silage

Players will need to process grass further to produce Hay and Silage in Farming Simulator 2022.

To make Hay Bales, players should:

  • Use a Tedder on the loose grass to turn it into hay.
  • Use a Windrower on the hay to make it easier to pick up.
  • Pick up the Hay with a Baler

To make Silage, players can either:

  • Take loose grass and put it into a silage silo, and then compact it with a leveler.
  • Use a Bale Wrapper on bales of loose grass.

Silage is useful as feed for cattle, sold at the biogas plant, or used to make the Total Mixed Ration, the best food available for cattle.
