What happens to Bill after Joel and Ellie leave in The Last of Us Part 1 is one of the big mysteries in the game. After the two depart, things aren’t looking great for Bill, but his fate is far from certain. But, is this a question that ever gets answered?
Does Bill die after The Last of Us Part 1?
Bill stays behind when Joel and Ellie leave Lincoln, Massachusetts, in The Last of Us Part 1. He’s worse for the wear as he’s lost at least one of his safehouses, the bar, to the infected. He also spent a considerable amount of equipment to help Joel and Ellie on their journey. He’s also stuck by himself, far from the house he’s using as his main base in unfamiliar territory.
So, it’s not a leap of the imagination to assume Bill might not have made it. However, neither Joel nor Ellie see Bill again, and he’s only mentioned once more in The Last of Us Part 1. Ellie brings him up to Dina in The Last of Us Part 2 while recounting her and Joel’s ordeal in Lincoln. Since she doesn’t mention him further, we can assume that she never saw him again.
No other works in The Last of Us universe mention Bill either. So, his fate is left to our imagination.
